This is the spot in the kitchen where the heat & AC ductwork was added. I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do about the paint on this—I don't have any more of the border paper, so I may just paint the whole thing to match the top part of the wall. Or I may end up redoing the kitchen. Any suggestions?
We are living in chaos here! But it is happy chaos.

Well, you could re-do your kitchen, but that's probaby not doable! LOL
But I would take a different color from the top or the bottome of the border. Pick a color from the border and paint the entire column. Or, you are talented enough that you could copy the border to continue around the column and then match the paint on the top and the bottome.
That's my two cents worth.
